Which SA celebs deserve a lifestyle audit?
March 10th, 2010We’re half way through the week and so much closer to the weekend then we were when the week began.
Just wanted to take the opportunity to wish Man United good luck tonight in their match against AC Milan, the match will be screened at 21:45.
ANC spin doctor Brian Sokutu spun his discs a little too quickly when he told Sapa that the reason why President Jacob Zuma had yet to declare his assets to Parliament was because he has “many spouses” and a “large family”.
In the wake of the row about Zuma’s failure to declare his financial interests and those of his spouses within 60 days of his inauguration, Sokutu went to creative lengths to come up with an excuse for the boss. But his efforts backfired badly.
Party spokesman Jackson Mthembu said the ANC “distances itself” from Sokutu’s comments which “were made in total breach of ANC protocol and also without any consultation with the ANC leadership”.
Mthembu said: “The ANC will rely on its disciplinary procedure to deal with whatever breach of ANC protocol which arises out the actions and statements of Brian Sokutu.”
Sokutu started the drama by saying: “We have a special case, in that we are dealing with a president who has a large family and therefore it is not easy [to declare all their interests].”
An announcement on whether Zuma will declare his assets is expected today.
So we asked the simple question: Which celebrities do you think should be subjected to a lifestyle audit?
ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema has accused DA leader Hellen Zille of being a “satanist” bent on demolishing churches in black communities.
“Helen Zille, who is suffering from satanism, has gone all out to demolish the churches in Western Cape,” Malema told students at the University of Johannesburg yesterday.
“She is exposing herself … people there will know they voted for a monster.”
Malema was reacting to an outcry by black religious leaders that the DA-led Cape Town municipality was demolishing township churches – while leaving shebeens standing.
Angry religious leaders met a delegation of 21 ANC MPs to complain about the city’s anti-land invasion unit, which has demolished churches in Khayelitsha.
When the MPs, including ANC chief whip Mathole Motshekga, and religious leaders visited the unit had just finished bulldozing a mosque.
Maybe Julius has a point, in the words of Kanye West “Helen Zille doesn’t care about black people”.
The driver of a 2008 Toyota Prius said his car uncontrollably accelerated to over 140km/h on a San Diego County freeway before a California Highway Patrol officer helped him stop the car, police said.
The driver, 61-year-old James Sikes, was not injured in the incident, which is another claim of unintended acceleration that has caused the greatest image crisis for Toyota Motor Corp in its history.
The incident occurred in the same county where an off-duty California Highway Patrol trooper and three family members were killed last August in an incident that brought the issue to national attention and led to the first major recall over unintended acceleration.
Sikes said he had received a recall notice to take his car into a Toyota dealership, but when he did, he was told that his car was not on recall lists.
On Monday afternoon, Sikes overtook another car on Interstate 8 near San Diego, and then the Prius accelerated beyond his control. For the next 20 minutes, Sikes sped 50km along the freeway, he said.
I know someone who wishes they were driving a Toyota Prius instead of a Mini Cooper…
